This full-day tour takes you through southern Georgia, combining nature, medieval history, and one of the country’s most impressive cave cities. The journey begins in Borjomi, a well-known resort town famous for its mineral water and forested landscapes. Enjoy a walk through Borjomi Central Park, taste the natural mineral water from the spring, and take in the fresh mountain air. Continue to Rabati Fortress in Akhaltsikhe — a restored medieval complex that reflects the region’s diverse cultural heritage. Explore its fortress walls, mosque, church, palace, and courtyards. The highlight of the day is Vardzia, an extraordinary cave city carved into a cliff along the Mtkvari River. Dating back to the 12th century, Vardzia once housed thousands of monks and residents. Walk through tunnels, caves, chapels, and terraces while discovering the story of Queen Tamar and her father, King Giorgi III. If you have any mobility limitations or are unable to walk for this distance, please indicate this at the time of booking so we can advise you accordingly. Please note that if, during the tour, you decide to shorten the walking route or skip certain sites due to fatigue or personal preference, the tour will still be charged in full, and no refunds will be provided. This is a private tour and can be booked online for any group size up to 20 passengers. For groups larger than 20 passengers, please send us an inquiry by email, and we’ll be happy to assist.
