This day trip introduces you to the historic and cultural heart of Kakheti, combining scenic mountain roads, local life, royal heritage, and ancient monasteries. The journey begins with a drive over Gombori Pass, offering beautiful views of forested hills and valleys — a perfect photo stop and a gentle introduction to eastern Georgia. Continue to Telavi, the regional capital of Kakheti. Visit the lively Telavi farmers’ market, where locals sell fresh produce, spices, fruits, and traditional goods. This is followed by a visit to the Fortress of King Erekle II (Batonis Tsikhe), the former royal residence of Kakheti’s most famous king. Explore the Museum of History located within the fortress complex, learning about the region’s past and royal legacy. For those interested, an optional winery visit can be arranged, including wine tasting and lunch, offering a deeper insight into Kakheti’s world-famous wine traditions and cuisine. The tour continues to Alaverdi Monastery, one of Georgia’s oldest and most important religious sites, surrounded by vineyards in the Alazani Valley. Founded in the 6th century, Alaverdi reflects centuries of Georgian spirituality and winemaking traditions. After the visit, enjoy a scenic drive back to Tbilisi, concluding a well-balanced day of history, culture, and regional flavors.
